Thioridazine was commonly known by the brand name Melleril®. It was one of a group of medicines called antipsychotics or neuroleptics and belongs to the drug class called the phenothiazines. These are usually used to help treat illnesses or conditions such as psychosis, schizophrenia and hypomania. They can also be used to help manage confusion, dementia, behaviour problems and personality disorders. They may also be used in smaller doses to help treat anxiety, tension and agitation.

Thioridazine was withdrawn in the UK in 2005 and so is no longer available in UK.
