Medication: Quetiapine
expandQuetiapine is commonly known by the brand names Seroquel® and Seroquel XL®. It is one of a group of medicines called antipsychotics or neuroleptics. It is most often used to help treat the symptoms of illnesses or conditions such as psychosis, schizophrenia, hypomania and bipolar depression. It can also be used to help manage confusion, dementia, behaviour problems and personality disorders. It can also be used in smaller doses to help treat anxiety, tension and agitation.
Quetiapine is available as tablets, either as a plain tablet or a sustained-release, once-a-day "XL" tablet. Quetiapine was first made available in the UK in 1997 and is widely used across the UK and the rest of the world for many symptoms and is one of the most widely used medicines of this type.
